Biography

Julie started her netball career early playing in her home town of Kerang at age 9. From here, she made her Commonwealth Bank Trophy debut at the age of 16 for the Melbourne Pheonix, where her style of defence saw her named Australia’s best new talent. In 2005, whilst recovering from a stress fracture in her foot, Julie captained the Australian Under 21 side to a bronze medal at the world Youth Championships.

2007 was a year of peaks and troughs for the talented athlete. Early in the year, Julie crossed the floor from the Phoenix to the Melbourne Kestrels and was also named to play for Australia in the England Tri-Series. Minutes into the season opener between the Phoenix and Kestrels Julie injured her ankle and was out of the touring squad. Following her recovery, Julie became the youngest member of the Victorious Australian team in her first ever World Championship title. In 2008, Julie signed with the Melbourne Vixens and in 2009 married Australian Basketballer Daryl Corletto. Following yet another successful year, in 2009 Julie capped off a sensational season with the ANZ Championship premiership winning Vixens, came runner-up in the Vixens’ Best & Fairest and was awarded with the Liz Ellis Diamond, recognizing Julie as having received the most votes for outstanding achievement in both the international arena and the ANZ Championship. Unfortunately Julie’s 2010 season was interrupted with Julie having to undergo knee surgery on both knees, resulting in her ultimately missing out in representing Australia in the Commonwealth Games.

Julie made up for her misfortunes in 2011, after returning to the Vixens team during round 5 of the 2011 season and also being named in the Diamonds Squad to represent Australia in the World Netball Championships. Julie was a superb contributor throughout the Series and played an influential role in the World Championship victory.

One of netball’s genuine superstars, Julie also has a bright and prosperous career off the netball court. A qualified teacher, Julie currently runs sports clinics and netball coaching via Corletto Sports in conjunction with her Basketballer husband Daryl and is currently an Ambassador for San Remo, Spalding & Cystic Fibrosis.
